DNA Translation Tool

Paste a DNA or mRNA sequence and get the amino acid sequence. Supports all three reading frames and handles both DNA (T) and mRNA (U) input.

Paste a DNA or mRNA sequence and get the amino acid sequence. Handles the standard genetic code with all six reading frames.

For DNA, T is transcribed to U automatically. Non-standard characters are ignored. Sequence is trimmed to the nearest multiple of 3.

How translation works

During translation, the ribosome reads mRNA three bases at a time. Each three-base codon codes for one amino acid or a stop signal. The start codon AUG codes for methionine. Stop codons are UAA, UAG, and UGA. The reading frame determines which bases group into codons – shifting by one base changes every amino acid downstream.
